Editorial Review :

Complete and up-to-date working draft specifications of Extensible Stylesheet Language (XSL).
* Companion technology for Extensible Markup Language, XML, considered the next generation markup language for Web-based documents.
* Describes how XSL can be used to define the appearance of printed and displayed documents.
* Perfect companion for program developers, Web page authors, technology managers, and others.

Extensible Stylesheet Language (XSL) is a language for expressing stylesheets in documents such as those provided on the World Wide Web. XSL is used as part of the emerging Extensible Markup language (XML) technology. With XSL, each stylesheet describes rules for presenting a class of XML source documents, so that the documents can be properly viewed on a browser, or printed on a paper. XSL can also be used to transform XML to "well-formed" HTML, that is, XML that uses the element types and attributes defined by the more common HTML format used on most Web pages today.

This book is a printed version of the XSL working draft specifications. It contains the complete text of the original document developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

A Forum Application Using XML/XSL/DHTML A Forum Application Using XML/XSL/DHTML
Price : $8.00 $8.00

Average Customer Rating : Not yet rated

Editorial Review :

Creating forum applications in ASP using databases is simple and efficient, but it has some disadvantages -- to name a few, it's not easy to delete messages, the disk space that hosts the web application often doesn't have a database server, and the application can put great stress on the server resources.

Since the message structure and the XML structure are both tree based, in some cases it may be more appropriate to use an XML--based forum. In this article, author Claudio Masieri explains how you can achieve this by using XSL and transforming the XML into HTML on the client side. This approach reduces the use of server resources and allows the development of a forum with high--speed access to messages.

Questions & Answers
Question : How do I avoid errors in Internet Explorer when using xsl and xml and the xsl is not where it should be?
I am using an XSL file to format an xml document. The idea is that the two files will be in the same directory and when the user double clicks on the .xml file it will be displayed nicely in Internet Explorer. The problem is that if Internet Explorer can't find the .xsl file it shows an error and won't display the xml file. Is there anyway that I can get it to display the xml file like it normally does if you don't have a stylesheet associated with it if it does not find the .xsl file instead of displaying the error message?I am doing this all on the client side. So the .xml and .xsl files would be on a local directory on the user's machine.

Answer:
I don't think it is a bug. If an xml file uses an xsl file, it is reported by IE because the display would not be as expected by the xml author. I am not aware of any way to supress this error.

Question : How to find an applied xsl rule?
Is there a software that lets you see which rule has been applied on a selected part of a transformed xml?

Question : Is XSL and XML written on the same pages to HTML or are they compiled completely different?
Is XSL and XML written on the same pages to HTML or are they compiled completely different?

Answer:
I'm not sure if this is what you're asking, but HTML and XML are different languages. There might be a way to embed XML in an HTML document, but I don't know of one. You can definitely put HTML tags in an XML document, but you have to modify them a little so they follow the XML rules (XML is more strict than HTML). An XSL file is a separate file that tells the browser how to read an XML file (so XML and XSL files often come together).

Question : How do you add XML/XSL data to a html page?
I am working with XML XSL basic stuff, and I get the parsered date when I think type in http://localhost/test.xml But I want to add the data to a html page and style it with CSS. But How?

Answer:
http://www.w3schools.com/xml/default.aspclick on the above link... i cud have told you but you must learn to search.

Question : What is the difference between XSL and XSLT?
One is to style and another is to query from XML ? is that the case? Please specify. I know that the naming doesn't mater a lot in this case. And its only because some programs do not support 4 letter extension. Pleas clarify if I am wrong or explain the purpose and file structure on some imaginary example. Regards to all and thank you for your time x

Answer:
XSL stands for EXtensible Stylesheet Language, and is a style sheet language for XML documents.XSLT stands for XSL Transformations.

Question : How to set value of input field using JavaScript in an XSL file?
Here's the function I'm trying to use, but I keep getting an error. I want the value of an input field (determined via XSL) to be copied over to another input field...function copyGBval(gbval, gbfld) { if (gbval != null && gbval.length != 0) { document.getElementByID(gbfld).value = gbval + '%'; } else { document.getElementByID(gbfld).value = '0%'; }}

Answer:
Has the document body already been loaded prior to calls to this method? If not, the attempt to get a reference to gbfld will fail. If the page IS loaded, what's the error message?

Question : What bolt does the 2002 diamondback xsl pro use in its shock link? I stripped a bolt and need a new one.?
What bolt does the 2002 diamondback xsl pro use in its shock link? I stripped a bolt and need a new one.?

Answer:
If you contact a Diamondback dealer or maybe shoot the company an email, you *might* get an answer to this question....maybe not. The only way to tell for sure is to measure the bolt for diameter and thread pitch. It's not likely you'll find the exact bolt at the hardware store or most bike shops, but you can make a stainless cap head allen bolt from the hardware store work just fine (I think...not sure exactly where this bolt goes in your linkage). The most common size by far in frame/shock bolts is 6mm x 1.0mm pitch, if that helps any. Just hafta measure it and see what you can come up with. Hope this helps some. :o)

Question : XML - is it possible to display an image in XML file and display it using XSL stylesheet?
If so, how?Thanks!

Answer:
I'm not sure if I'm reading your question right. If you're asking: a) Can I use XML to point to an image which I can then use XSL to display? Then the answer is yes.but if you're asking: b) Can I store an image within XML completely (as in no external image file required), then the answer is no.In the case of option (a), you would need to define the image in your XML file within a tag, something like this:myimage.jpgand in your XSL Stylesheet you would add the following in:I hope that helps.
